WORDS/Advent

NGS is hosting an Advent Challenge. We are receiving an image each day and are challenged to use it. Here's mine. I stamped the compass using versamark and then used a paintbrush to add pearl ex. I stamped the words and added the image. Inside the envelope is one of the other images received of a travel ticket. (I thought it appropriate for the project) I stapled the large staples on their own and then attached them with glue dots. OH, Also, I used gold foil on the one compass but don't like it too much so it's the only one I did. I also did this for another challenge "WORDS"

SNOW ATC

This snow ATC I did for the December Lottery at For the Love of Art group. I started with an ATC base and covered it with spackle to give it texture. While the spackle was wet, I added the little snowflake embellishments. After it dried, I added the image I got from the NGS group, I tore the edges and inked them with distress ink. To complete the project, I added the S N O W letter brads. WINTER FUN

Dye Ink

This is the last step for coloring our tags at The Artist Circle yahoo group. I stamped the dye ink pads on a piece of foil and spritzed with water. I then dipped the tags in the color. I like this technique as well. When I was done and the tags had dried, I ironed all the tags as they were quite warped. I used basic white cardstock so they curled alot when wet. The ironing flattened them nicely and they are all ready for the next step in the fantastic workshop. I don't know what we will do with tags now that we've, 1) stained them and 2) colored them.

Marbling Tag

The next step for the The Artist Circle Tag Workshop is to use shaving cream and color sprays to marblize our tags. I didn't have color sprays so I just drizzled acrylic paints on the shaving cream and then used a toothpick to make the design. Next I dipped the tags on the shaving cream and when I removed it this was the result. I scraped the SC off and back into the pan. I mixed the excess paint in so it was a smooth color with no design. I drizzled another color and repeated the process. I think I may need to do a few more tags or ATC backgrounds this way as I really like this technique.

Christmas ATC FTLOA

I used a background I made from mixing Pearl Ex and Crystal Lacquer. I swiped a brilliance ink pad over it to give it a bit of shimmer then added opulence embossing powder and heated it. I then stamped the saying which I should have done prior to the embossing.. Lastly I adhered the image and the snowflakes. Hope you like it.

Happy Birthday

While I was in the studio working, I came across a strip of adhesive ABC's. I wondered how quickly could I create something simple with them. Here's the Happy Birthday 4x4 I came up with. First, I took out a 4x4 Board Book page I had already sanded and covered in Gesso. I stamped it all over with silver pigment ink and moldable foam tip that I had heated and pressed int a leaf stamp. I then embossed it with clear embossing powder. All was well until I spread paint over it with a paint dauber bottle and the wiped off the excess. OOPS....the embossing started peeling. From there I attached the ABC strip, the fibers and balloon buttons and wrote Happy Birthday. I was disappointed that the embossing peeled off so I didn't bother finding at birthday stamp. Learning by doing I guess.

NGS & Theme thursday challenges

This little work of art was done for the challenges for the NGS group as well as Theme Thursday It incorporates 3 of the NGS challenges, Image, Wintery Colors and Square Art. The image was provided. I used a piece of metallic paper and covered it with crystal laquer. I placed the image on it. Next I added the snowflakes and buttons. I needed more CL to help them adhere securely. Next, I stamped the words from a little kit I had purchased eons ago. (Yea, Got to use what I had) Next I remembered about 10 years ago I was made little snow globes from baby food jars for Christmas and had left over 'snow'. I put more CL on the bottom of the image and sprinkled it with the 'snow' I overdid it a bit and now it looks like a snowdrift instead of lightly fallen snow. Lastly I took a sharpie and went around the edges of the image as well as the whole piece.

The Artist Circle Workshop-Acrylic Wash

Here's step 2b. I LIKE this effect. I put a dab of cheap acrylic paint on the tin foil, added lots of water with a brush and brushed it on the tags. I really like how vibrant the colors are.

The Artist Circle Workshop-WaterColor

Here are the results from the watercolor washes. I dug out the watercolor pencils and colored directly on the blue tag then used a water brush to move the color around. I was not happy with the result so I made the brush very wet and splattered color from the pencil to the paper. It was an interesting effect. I did the red one next and dipped the pencil in water and the colored the tag. Then used the water brush to help spread the color around. I like the way the tea stain acted almost like a resist. For the Burgandy one, I colored the paper hard with the pencils and the spritzed with water and spread the color around with the water brush. I like this one the best.

Mica Challenge

I used the same backgrounds I used for the 4-Seasons ATCs. When I mixed the Pearl Ex into the PVA glue to stamp on the ATC's, I used the left over mixture and brushed it over these backgrounds. The whole experiment started for the Mica Challenge on the Next Generation Stamper group. Thanks for that. I've had the Pearl Ex powders in my stash for years and it was great to bring the out and PLAY.

Mixed Media Monday

Here's my entry for Mixed Media Monday - Numbers. The backgrounds are made from alcohol inks. I did it on cardstock and not glossy paper so the effects of inks were very muted and sucked into the paper. Pearl Ex was the medium I was Playing With.

Upper Left: I stamped the #4 with versamark and sprinkled Pearl Ex. The Pearl Ex stuck every where it landed so I had to brush it off. I adhered a punched tree and covered it with Crystal Laquer and sort of went other off it to give the illusion of tree full of leaves (SPRING)

Upper Right: Stamped #4 with a mixture of Pearl Ex and CL. used a versamark ink pad to spread ink on half the card and dipped it in UTEE. Melted the UTEE and redipped about 4 times. I then put the punched tree in the warm UTEE and inked it more and dipped about 5 more times in UTEE. When cooled and dry, I cracked the UTEE and spread blue pigment ink over it. Wiped off the excess ink which left blue in the cracks and redid the UTEE two more times to look like water?? (SUMMER)

ON the lower left one I mixed Pearl Ex into PVA Glue and stamped #4. I adhered the punched tree on a piece of cardstalk and cut out. I put CL on the tree to add dimention. I ran a Paint Dauber around the edges. (FALL)

Lower Right: Again I used the Pearl Ex mixture into PVA glue and stamped the #4. After attaching the punched tree I used a Zig Zigns pen to paint the white. I also add the CL to the tree for dimension. (WINTER)

So that was a fun exercise

Leaves Deco

This is the cover for the Leaves Deco I did for LANDMAILART yahoo group. I kinda like it for my first Deco.

Sketch

My first attempt at sketching. We took a day trip through Yosemite Nat'l Part via Tioga Pass on to Mono Lake and then returned over Sonora Pass. I had made the piano hinge book at the Book Arts Club last month and just grabbed it on my way out the door that morning. I guess I get to use it for my spur of the moment trip sketch book. I'd love any comments. Thanks.

Zentangle

Here are some zentangles I tried on our 9 hour trip to Las Vegas. It was fun to try a new art. I recently joined some yahoo art groups and this was one of the challenges. I've been so busy it's been hard to find the time to do the challenges but, slowly, I'm getting focused and hopefully will try many on a regular basis

INCHIES

This was a fun exercise for Challenge. I did them digitally and then re-read the criteria and, oops, I need to use a rubber stamp. I'll go make some others to add.

Altered Journal

I created this journal from 1/2 of a composition book (Kinko's cut it for me). I did it to take with us for our trip to Antartica and South America. I plan to take my little photo printer to add the journaling while we are at sea, cruising to the next port.

I Have a BLOG

I've joined a couple of art groups that request a link to my blog...well, now I have one. Yea! What a new experience this will be. I'll post both scrapbooking layouts I've done as well as all the new art I'm starting to explore. Exciting days to come. Have a great day.
